The Market: Beliefs in Products

What is it that leads people to live a life in pursuit of suicide? For a long time, stimulants have been held responsible. These are said to be the true causes that drive human beings to live a life oriented towards death. Are drugs and alcohol the destroyers of minds and hearts? Is gambling the Ragnarök of families? No: it is tobacco that kills. Who says so? Religion: you shall not drink. Politics: do not take drugs. Science: do not gamble. Stop drinking, stop taking drugs, stop gambling. Do that and you will live. Not forever, but a healthy life. And what is living a healthy life? Supposedly, a life based on a vegan diet; that is, a primarily plant-based diet: cereals, nuts, fruits and vegetables, legumes, oils and any plant-based complement or supplement. You should exercise, for your body needs movement. Running in the street or going to the gym would be your best option. And praying every morning, before and after sleeping. That, essentially, would imply living a healthy life. Is this really true?

For millennia, religious figures, politicians and scientists alike have proclaimed to the four winds the keys to a healthy life. They have pointed to everything else and dismissed it. That is the problem: we have accepted all of that as valid from the very first premise. We have seen the label “Smoking kills” and we have ignored the final part of the paragraph: “The relevant governmental authority approves its distribution.” That is to say, the State itself has been officially selling you something that “kills”, but it does so openly, because they are very clever. No: the government endorses the tobacco market, the one that appears respectable. It is the toll that the distributor must pay so that its product can be commercialised. The final price of the product -tobacco- increases by almost 80%, and that increase corresponds to the tax revenue that the State obtains from distributing the product within its territory -in 2018, tobacco was the fifth source of State income in Spain-. In this way, the commercial market is regulated and supervised by governments and their market laws. The tax that increases the price of tobacco corresponds to public health law, because smoking is not good for your health. Do you smoke? The money solves the problem, and everyone can access tobacco, always regulated. In other countries, the price of tobacco is sold almost at cost. It is very important to understand the role of the product within the economic market system which, in its time, was spread by Adam Smith, father of modern economics. And even more important is understanding the company that wishes to sell it. Just as we find products that are illegal in some countries and legal in others, always determined by the free market, in which everyone has the right to sell, under regulation -that is, by paying a tax-. The product can kill. We do not know what we eat or what we drink because, in truth, the recipe of the product is a private right that the selling company keeps. Therefore, you do not truly know what you eat or what you drink. In this situation: What is truly healthy? And for whom? For the economy of the State and/or the corporation that produces it, or for the health of people? Supermarkets will claim that they contain the best pasta, milk, meat, fish, vegetables… products. And you will have no choice but to buy them. Because behind that, for you to reach those supermarkets, the product has been advertised. Advertising is controlled by the media, also supervised by the State and large corporations. That is to say, the State will tell you to eat this meat, but also to follow that vegan diet. And not to smoke, but that nothing happens if you smoke a cigarette. The State will tell you not to kill or rape, yet they kill and rape in other countries; you can join them and kill and rape there. Thus, armies and police systems are filled with rapists, abusers, violent individuals and criminals in general. They have given the fool the measuring stick.

If you are able to see this, you are able to see the second story behind the premise. It is the war of the product. It has always been this way; what happens now is that it is “free”. The State shares the product with you instead of simply keeping it -circulating it among the elites-, as it had been doing. We have been given a life for the product, and we have bought it -a cheap copy of the original product-, what they say kills and also what they say does not kill, without understanding the truth of the product. “This is good”, “that is bad”. Judgements derived from a machine called propaganda -marketing-. The truth about the product is confusing, because some products do not adapt to the reality of people who live their lives within the system. It is very difficult to live a completely vegan life if you live in the social jungle. Vegan products are luxury; therefore, access to all the nutrients necessary to avoid starving is not within everyone’s reach. On the contrary, if you could not pay the toll, you would live a life focused on what is available to eat today.

Our ideas about the product create its final reality. That drugs are bad is now a general belief, based on health systems and policies -propaganda-. But pseudo-scientific narratives have suggested that products such as marijuana are more effective in the treatment of cancer than chemotherapy, and this has been demonstrated. While chemotherapy destroys all cells -both good and bad-, marijuana selectively destroys harmful cells. We have all smoked a joint, and something has happened. You would not know what to say; if you thought about it too much, you would end up going mad. And that is what has happened with the product, for the product existed before any company. The latter has merely begun to distribute it, has endorsed it and has granted it recognition… without saying what it is used for. “That is for smoking”, “and what happens next?”, “you will be Alice in Wonderland”. People end up going mad. Because Alice is a story. The one they have not told you. Drugs, or rather, psychedelic medicinal plants, have been used since time immemorial. Mayans and Native Americans, Sumerians and Egyptians, Greeks, Indians, Chinese… all of them have used this type of stimulant. Most of them did not end up in a bar, unconscious in a toilet. They did not use it to disconnect: they used it to connect. With what? With their body, emotions and thoughts. With energy. With everything that existed and that, at first glance, they could not see. Today, no one connects with their body, emotions or thoughts. Many people do not know what energy is, and cannot see beyond what has been named. When they begin to use it, it will be like Chernobyl: they will end up intoxicated in body, mind and emotions. Because the truth will be revealed, and since they will not be able to elevate it, they will remain with the sensation… and will seek it impulsively. And they will simply end up “tripping”. What about alcohol? It is the blood of Christ! But everything has been transformed through chemical intervention, and what was once healthy is now poisonous. Thus we live today, where morality is governed by the product for sale. The product has multiplied, and with it vanity. Our dreams have been replaced by products to be desired. If I have this or that, I will be able to do what I want or be who I am. We no longer dream our dreams: we wish to buy them or possess them. The modern economic system has destroyed the dreams of an entire society: all the players have lost and the bank has won, and with it, its bankers. Modern society is a circus in itself, offering tickets to different kinds of attractions. We have all taken our ticket.
